Citrus Circuit Tour Manifesto

Press Release

Posted: May 20, 2009

The Citrus Circuit Tour is a celebration of Florida’s deep-rooted musical culture by bands born out of the swampy salt marshes, dusty small towns, coastal communities and oak hammocks that make up the heart and soul of our beloved state. In this first edition of what is sure to become a regular tour series, Lauris Vidal, The Takers, Have Gun, Will Travel and Truckstop Coffee have joined forces to revive state pride and spark a new era in Florida music. Their aim is to re-ignite feelings of community and camaraderie amongst traveling Florida musicians and establish access points for fans of their folky, rootsy, southern, alt. country genres to plug into. The bands will be sharing rides and gear, and each will host the others in their own home town -- because, as tour organizer Lauris Vidal puts it, “we all want to share our love for where we’re from and show off our favorite Florida bands to our friends and fans at home."

Have Gun, Will Travel newest release, “Casting Shadows Tall as Giants,” has been doing just that all over college radio and NPR. Creative Loafing said of “Casting Shadows,” The mostly traditional instrumentation, arrangements and production provide a supreme backdrop for Matt Burke's reedy, intimate singing about charlatan preachers, finding solace in a lover's arms and facing up to the responsibilities of growing older.”

The Takers have been referenced as Florida’s outlaw country band. Whiskey soaked honky-tonk rock n’ roll that surrounds growling swampy vocals. Their low country sound is definitely attributed from their hometown of Gainesville. This tour will come on the heels of their anticipated debut album release, Taker Easy, coming out on Suburban Home Records.

Lauris Vidal’s music has been aptly dubbed by Jim Reed of Connect Savannah, “ Kitchen sink beat-blues with off-kilter percussion and an affected sense of swampy melodrama (straight from the Franks Wild Years school) from an ultra-indie Florida solo artist.” This Daytona troubadour’s upbeat style slides through his refreshingly original vocal delivery and starts your toes to tapping.

Truckstop Coffee
cranks out a reviving take on the road-worn genre of Americana rock 'n roll. As affirmed by Wade Tatangelo of Creative Loafing,"...the band confidently alternates between rollicking whiskey songs and somber ballads." They’ve shared the stage with the likes of the Georgia Satellites and Florida’s own J.J. Grey and Mofro. And, their second full-length album, For Dear Life, is in the final stages of production with a pending release later this summer.
